Submission Guidelines for the 2022 Austronesian International Arts Award

The Austronesian International Arts Award is set up to promote artworks that contain elements of natural sceneries, cultural narratives, environmental topics, and the life memories of the Austronesian language family.

Eligibility: Individuals or groups of artists with the R.O.C. citizenship or alien resident certificates (ARC for foreign nationals)
Exhibition Dates: December 17, 2022 to January 29, 2023 (TBC)
Submission: Open submission
Submission Guidelines: Please visit the Taitung Art Museum website (https://reurl.cc/35jakM). Taitung Art Museum is hereafter referred to as the Museum.
Submission Method: Online submission only; please visit the Museum website, go to “Sign up for the Austronesian International Arts Award” (http://210.71.38.167/)
Submission Dates: June 1 (2400), 2022 to July 1 (1700), 2022
How to take part:
  1. Competition Rules:
  1. The entry submitted must be created and completed in 2019 or after.
  2. No restrictions on entry sizes or mediums
  3. Each individual (or group) contestant can only submit one entry, which can be a single piece or a series/set of artworks.  
  4. The submitted entry must not have been entered into other public competitions or won a prize in any other submission events.

  1. Personal Data (highest level of education completed, exhibition profile and previous awards)
  2. Creation Concept (under 1000 words)
  3. Entry Data (artwork name, medium, size, digital file, and the year it was created)
*About the digital files: When uploading a digital file, it must be a static graphic file in the JPG format. Each JPG file must be under 1MB, and each entry is limited to 8 digital files. The total length of a digital artwork, i.e., audio video files or soundtracks, is limited to five minutes and less than 100MB per file. Both mp3 and mp4 formats are accepted. Please edit the file size accordingly. If you are submitting a video, you may submit the video onto Vimeo or YouTube and enter the video link onto the submission form.
  1. ​Preliminary ideas for your artwork display
  2. For our reference, please submit three pieces of artwork created after January 1, 2018.
※The submission process is not complete until all the above procedures are followed.
  1. Three Stages of Evaluation/Selection
    1. Preliminary Selection:The judging panel will conduct an online evaluation, and the selected entries will be announced on the Museum website for secondary selection. Those not selected for the secondary selection will not be notified.
  2. Secondary Selection:When you are notified to enter the secondary selection, you’ll be informed of the space size for you to do the relevant planning. A date will be set for the oral presentation of your artwork and conception, space planning for the exhibition and other artworks for reference. There will be a live Q&A with the judging panel, and the judging panel and contestants are limited to 8 minutes each. Ten finalists will be selected to enter the final selection. If contestants do not meet the judges’ standards, less than 10 finalists will be selected.
  3. Final selection:The finalists in the final stage of the selection will be presenting their artworks at the exhibition where the judging panels will select the top 3 entries for the Austronesian International Arts Award.
    1. Finalists are required to set up and dismantle their artwork exhibition by the designated time.
    2. The Museum is in charge of coordinating exhibition space integration in accordance with various exhibition plans and on-site situations.
    3. The Taitung County Government (or the commissioned agency) will provide each individual or group contestant with a maximum of NT$120,000 (including taxes)[1] to cover production costs, e.g., woodwork and paint.
    4. The Taitung County Government will provide the existing AV equipment available in the Museum, dependent on facilities needed for the exhibition. Alternatively, the finalists can prepare/organize their own equipment.   
    5. The Taitung County Government is responsible for the transportation and insurance of the artwork exhibition. All insurance liabilities will be in accordance with the clauses in the insurance contract.
    6. All artworks during the exhibition period cannot be put on loan to external venues.
    7. For publicity and promotion purposes, the Taitung County Government has the right to research, photograph, report, exhibit, print, and publish the exhibited artworks in relevant literature, magazines, and online.
  4. Judges:
    1. The 5-7 judges are all professionals hired by the Taitung County Government.
    2. The recusal requirement applies in accordance with Article 32 of the Administrative Procedure Act.
Rewards:
  1. Winners of the Austronesian International Arts Award will receive a trophy, prize money of NT$400,000 (including taxes), and 10 collection albums each. The Taitung County Government will invite them to exhibit their work.
  2. Entries by winners of the Austronesian International Arts Award will be archived by the organizer, and their intellectual property rights will belong to the Taitung County Government, and their permanent and non-exclusive copyright will be licensed to the Taitung County Government. 
  3. The finalists will receive a certificate and 5 collection albums.

Notes
  1. By completing the online submission form, the contestant agrees to comply with the submission guidelines.
  2. Contestants are required to respect the review, display planning and catalog printing.
  3. If any of the following is found to be true with the contestant, he/she will be held accountable by the law and prohibited from attending the same competition for the next two rounds, in addition to being disqualified from the competition and losing the prize money.
    1. His/her entry has won prizes in open competitions at home or abroad.
    2. Plagiarism or impersonation.
    3. Violated the Copyright Act or other regulations.
  4. The exhibited artworks shall follow the principle of not destroying the hardware structure of the exhibition space.
  5. If a group contestant wins a prize, a representative will collect the prize money on behalf of the group and be responsible for relevant tax deductions.

The submission guidelines are subject to further amendments, pending website announcements.
※To enter Taiwan, foreign nationals are required to comply with the regulations of Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center and the embassies and missions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During their stay in Taiwan, foreign nationals are required to adhere to the exhibition schedule as outlined in the award submission guidelines.
※The exhibition production fee includes income tax, 2nd-generation NHI supplementary premium and stamp tax. Those who have joined a labor union are exempt from the 2nd-generation NHI supplementary premium by presenting labor union payment receipts. Foreign nationals are required to comply with Taiwan’s tax laws when collecting their prize money.
※The prize money includes income tax and stamp tax
※Winners of the Austronesian International Arts Award are required to submit their exhibition proposals before June 30, 2023, for them to be reviewed by the Museum. Those failing to do so within the deadline will lose the right to display their works at the exhibition. Once the winners’ exhibition proposals pass the review, the Museum will notify the winners of the exhibition dates by post. Those failing the review can submit another exhibition proposal before December 31, 2023, to retain their right to display works at the exhibition.
